The blog thefantasticworldofmine.de has called for a blog parade. The topic: “My favorite food” The question is asked whether you associate memories with your favorite food. – Favorite meal ?! Well, we’d love to be there to have a little chat.
What is your favorite food?
The question about your favorite food is actually not that easy to answer, because for me it changes regularly and depends on various factors. It depends, among other things, on the temperatures and the season. In the warm months I love light fare, asparagus is at the top of my list. In winter it can get hearty, because I can eat roast duck more often. So you could call it your favorite seasonal food.
Another point is the fact that you discover new things that you have never eaten before and then simply cannot get enough of for a while. That often goes away again. Either because you have overdone it or because you e.g. I thought it was great on vacation but somehow it doesn’t taste that great at home (mussels just taste different at the sea). That would then be something like a temporary favorite food.
Then there are isolated foods that you love, but which you would not count as your own favorite food in isolation. For me it would be avocado. I always have one in the house and use it in all kinds of foods, but I wouldn’t want to eat a whole avocado straight. The same goes for zucchini. I call this my favorite food.
Favorite foods and memories
With regard to the additional question on the subject, I can think of other dishes. The ones that wake up memories and that simply taste good because they convey a special feeling. Actually, I only think of things that have to do with my childhood and family. My first spontaneous thought: stews. I only really learned to appreciate them when I no longer lived at home. I really enjoy eating them today. When I go to visit, my mom usually asks me in advance what I would like to eat. At the top is potato soup, lentil or savoy cabbage stew. (my tooth is dripping). This could be called an all-time favorite.
So what makes favorite food? Is that what you can’t get enough of at the moment, what has been with you for years, but what you don’t want to eat all the time, or what gives you pleasant memories of mum’s stove? Is there even THE ultimate favorite food?
That sounds almost philosophical and before it gets too cerebral, just a simple answer:
I love all of the dishes mentioned above and would count them in my top 10 favorite foods. However, there is only one thing that I can think of that I could almost always eat (90 percent of the time) – if someone woke me up in the middle of the night and offered me that, I would eat it with pleasure: sushi. I love it and it also helps with weight loss at the same time. But of course I don’t eat it all the time. Often, but not every day or every week. If I did, it probably wouldn’t be my favorite food anymore. And that’s where all the components come together: good memories (I had my first sushi with mom), it tastes good everywhere and in all situations (whether summer or winter – it is pleasant in summer because it is eaten cold; in winter it is warm Wasabi and ginger inside), but you don’t eat it every day.
